The Earthquake Sound CP8 Couch Potato is a powered 8-inch compact and powerful special applications subwoofer designed to deliver deep and precise bass right at your sitting position. It features a premium 8-inch down-firing woofer with an integral high-efficiency class AB amplifier that produces up to 300 watts of peak power. The woofer features a durable and lightweight pressed paper cone with a wide Santoprene surround, which ensures low distortion and long-lasting performance. The CP8 Couch Potato subwoofer also has a variable crossover and phase control to adjust the sound to your listening preferences. The crossover allows you to set the subwoofer’s frequency range from 40Hz to 120Hz, while the phase control lets you align the subwoofer with your main speakers for optimal sound quality. This subwoofer is easy to install and connect with any speaker system; whether watching movies, listening to music, or playing games, the CP8 will transform your listening experience with its dynamic and immersive sound.
Because the CP8 is only 7 inches in height, it allows for unique placement possibilities, such as underneath or behind sofas, beds, and other furniture. It can also be placed on its side and in between the back of the couch and the wall making it a versatile option for home theater systems. By placing the subwoofer closer to your sitting position, the bass is faster, more powerful, and carries massive subharmonic vibrations that all home theater enthusiasts can appreciate. A sizeable 3-inch port at the long end of the enclosure lets you direct bass out from under a couch or bed without losing precision and energy, which provides a high output of the lower frequencies. It gives the robust woofer optimal working conditions, resulting in a strong and accurate bass response. With incredible versatility and a slim form factor in mind, the low-profile CP8 offers flexibility and concealment without sacrificing precious floor space. It will quickly become an indispensable fixture for your home theater system, allowing you to add outstanding bass to unused space. If you are looking for a subwoofer that delivers high performance, low distortion and is placement-friendly, look no further than the CP8 Couch Potato by Earthquake Sound.

Installed up north at my cabin, perfect amount of bass! Would buy again.
Never expected this kind of sound from an 8" woofer. I have used various subs with 10-12" woofers to I demand LOW bass. This replaced an SVS 10" sealed unit.(SB-1000) The sound from this is faster, lower and more accurate for half hte price, and it fits under the couch! It does not reach quite as deep as my massive SVS SB-2000 with 12" woofer but it also doesn't take up the space of a coffee table.
I put this under my bed. Clean bass. No humming sound. Just fits under a standard bed frame.
I used this subwoofer to augment a sub I'm aleady using. But I didn't want to see it. There are limited choices on slim subwoofers out there. After reading other reviews I chose this one. It fits perfectly underneath my couch. You dont even know the sub is there. When played stand alone(other sub turned off) it performed well. Don't expect it to shake the house. But when other sub is turned on I acheived my goal. Small living room now has more bass and cleaner sounding too. Also the speaker out has a high pass filter. Very nice feature. My small satelites do not see low frequency audio signals. Very cool product!
I initially bought the Monoprice 10" sub hoping to get that rumble on the couch watching action flicks. I wanted to feel the rumble of explosions. I ended up returning the Monoprice because of a buzzing sound and weak power...I bought it because it was cheaper, but in this case, I got what I paid for. The Earthquake Sound CP8 cost me more at $295 but damn! This sub has me excited about watching movies at home again, just bought the 77" LG C2 Oled. This sub is not even cranked halfway and I can feel the bass punch thru my chest (in a good way). The tactile feel of the bass makes you feel like you're in the scene. The bass drops around 30hz so you FEEL that UFO landing. Well done EARTHQUAKE! My wife appreciates that it hides behind my couch on its side. I run a dual sub setup myself and it's a perfect 2nd sub. Another plus is that it's dead quiet when not in use, with no weird electronic feedback you find in cheaper amps. Looking for a slim design sub with quality bass? This is the one.
I chose CP8 mainly for it's slim figure so I can place it next to the sofa on it's side (a big square sub is out of the question in our sh***y tipicaly British living room). Now don't let the slim part fool you about this sub, it is a really heavy hitter, it can literally make the paintings on the wall shake! It is connected to the receiver via RCA cable on the white input (the red one gave a boomy sound), half volume, crossed at 100 Hz, -3 Db in receiver settings. I've tested it, it really goes down to 20 hz (and below, only you can't hear it). The movies are brought to life by 5 speakers and this sub. Some music can be too boomy, maybe playing with the equalizer would help
I used to use a Scandyna Bass Station, but having moved to a smaller apartment a while ago I found it a little over bearing. Of course I could have tuned it down but it took up lots of space. I wanted something smaller that could (if I really wanted) provide equally as much bass or more. I wasn't disappointed. I initially tried this by plugging my phone into it and playing some Bass Mechanic test tracks. It seemed over blown and the port noise was horrible. However, since connecting it up to my surround system and tuning it properly it has no such issues, so I suggest spending some serious time tuning this thing. It does take a while, but now provides exactly what I was looking for. The same (well, less) bass than I had before but it a much smaller and easier to hide package. It's very impressive how much bass this thing puts out, and I say that as an ex test pilot for Cerwin Vega in the 1990s (I used to run three 18" stroker subwoofers). Obviously as I get older I don't want my music to be boomy or shake my head. However, this thing does indeed provide more bass than I would know what to do with at my age.
Great unless you live in a big house and are a bass head.
Great sound Great size Great price
Great for that extra bass and sound for that home theater babyyyyyy!!!!!!!!
Awesome sound quality for my home theater system. This was exactly what I was hoping for. Deep, punchy bass, easy to access controls, and came with additional rubber feet so it could be stored on its side. I'm very happy with this purchase.
Overall like the product, little hard to set wright amount of base so it doesn’t sound overpowered
Exploding sound. Reliable and works great.
There are plenty of couch subs out there, but nothing compares to the Earthquake sub for its size and impact on the low end! It will literarily make you FEEL the sound!
5.0 out of 5 stars Pound for pound, the best! A true 20hz delight!
Big booming sound. For the price, this works really well. To get much better, you'll have to spend a lot more money.
Works great in large TV room. I set crossover to match the lower cut off of my center speaker, then adjusted the volume to fill in missing bass on my favorite CD. Only 30% of output needed. Both surround and stereo are dramatically improved!
When I watch an action movie, I like to feel the action as much as see and hear it. The couch potato subwoofer sends those vibrations up into the couch, exactly as I wanted. For music, it provides pleasant deep vibrations from bass notes. Believe it or not I nap best to drum music using this subwoofer for rocking the couch.
Needed a slim sib to install under built in cabinets. Works great, provides sufficient bass to fill a large great room and meet my needs.
I bought 4" risers for my couch to fit this underneath, unfortunately that made the couch comically tall - so I would not advise putting this under a couch unless it's geometry already facilitates it. I ended up putting it under a console table adjacent to the couch instead and that worked out very well. The unit shakes the floor (and furniture) if you want it to. If you don't, you can turn down the bass on the unit your AVR. The former is a lot of fun, but can make loose items reverberate and ruin the sound quality - so you should consider this against the room you have in mind. I'm not an audiophile so I can't attest to the spectral purity of the output, but sounds great to untrained ears.
Very good performance for this form factor - solid to 30Hz in room as measured with Anthem Room Correction.
I wanted a sub to put inline between my ChiFi tube amp and my full range speakers I had built. The full range speakers use a Fostex 127e speaker in a back horn type enclosure...these speakers sound wonderful for the $ they cost but you cannot get deep bass out of them...it’s just not happening so I went looking for an answer...the CP8 was my choice...placed in line...behind my couch it rounds out the sound...giving me that bottom end while not compromising the wonderful openness of my full range speakers...would recommend for anyone who is looking for a budget minded sub for their stereo...
Fit right behind my couch. Sound is incredible. Makes all the difference for surround sound.
I needed a subwoofer for my little office/man cave. This one filled the need over and above expectations! Running a 2-channel with Energy L+R and this little "monster"!!
This a good sub! Plain black box. Nothing fancy but puts out quality bass. I used my Stereophile test CD which has test frequency tracks down to 20 Hz. This sub plays solid down to 32 hz. Beats my old 12 inch B.I.C.. The 12 inch will play louder but the CP8 plays better. So, I will use the CP8 for everyday listening and switch on the 12 inch when I'm in the mood for some rock. My room size is 14'x10'. This CP8 will not handle room sizes much bigger. The CP8 is designed to be placed under a sofa or bed or under furniture. So, a remote control to tweak the volume, frequency and phase would be a nice option. Once the sub is placed it is difficult to get at the controls. I recommend this sub for small to moderate room size and sound systems.
I have limited space in my 10'x13' room. I have a 10" Martin Logan sub which is great, but I wanted to FEEL the bass while watching movies. I bought this CP8 with little expections, and after setting it up with a calibration, this is what I hoped it would be.. You feel like you're in the movie. Fast and Furious was awesome with all those cars.. But I still wanted more.... lol. So I bought another one.. Yep, duel CP8's. It's like DBOX without the seat moving around. I can't watch a movie without it. I'm lucky that my seating is a futon, cuz these fit perfect. I highly recommend the CP8.. It's NOT *room shaker* but it ROCKS the seats.. Best investment for a small room...
Great size and solid bass all things considered. Have it underneath my corner sectional sofa opposite the TV, the sub is in a corner and with the gain at 50% it does well in our semi-large room with tall ceilings.
Very Happy with this purchase. Installed it inside a non-reclining section of a Lazyboy sectional and it fit perfectly. As stated this won’t shake the room, but does better than I expected. Only the first day so hopefully all continues to go well.
I can't believe what you get out of this one. It's not Hi end hifi but close to it given the size and shape perfect for music and HT. Again not for 10K hifi esoteric audiophile but maybe
UPDATE: Still hitting hard and enjoying this well made sub. No issues over the 2 years I've used it. Was worried the 8" ported low profile CP8 wouldn't be enough to match up to what its replacing. The wife decided she didn't want to see my 12" Sony cube sub in the middle of our new livingroom so I had to find a low profile replacement I could hide under a bench/ottoman/chair of my wife's choosing. After looking at the other manufacturer's offerings I decided on this 8" long throw low pro sub from Earthquake. It seamed to have the specs but I wasn't sure it could fill a room like my 12" did. I plugged them both in, switching RCA cable back and forth to see if I heard a difference. I did, but it wasn't enough to classify the CP8 as a lesser contender. If anything the fact that it held its own in all be the lowest of lows for the its smaller size and volume shows Earthquake had a great design. The original price of the 12" and this CP8 are about the same so I can't tell you its as good as more expensive subs but it makes my 6.1 HTS as full as ever in my 14' x 20' living room.
I have been an audio nut for as long as I can remember and became aware of Earthquake Sound in the 90s in the car audio market. They have always been known for making solid products at reasonable prices, so when I saw the CP8, I was intrigued. I originally bought one a few years ago to compliment my computer audio system which consists of a Peachtree Audio Decco2 integrated amplifier and D5 bookshelf speakers, as well as Sennheiser HD 650 headphones for when I need to be a little quieter. This system cost a couple of thousand dollars all told, even after "bargain" shopping, which puts me into "He's clearly crazy!" category for my friends, but "mid-fi" category for audiophiles. Hopefully, this gives you an idea of my audio experience for this review. This sub fits perfectly in the cavernous foot well of my over-sized desk, and since it and my desk are both black, it blends in very well. It gets a substantial low bass boost, similar to corner loading, because of my foot well, but doesn't get too boomy as a result, which surprised me to be honest. It plays low enough that it will cover all but the most infrasonic of music, and in my small office, will energize the room with bass quite nicely, especially when sitting right on top of it at my desk. This system sounds phenomenal to me while seated at my desk (which is the most important thing)...but the bass quality varies dramatically around in the room due to its placement in the foot well. Given its excellent performance in my desktop system, I decided to get one for my office "home theater." My significant other wanted my "ugly speakers" out of the living room. Surprisingly, I was able to talk my way into keeping the sub...whew! So, I recently replaced those old speakers with in-ceiling surround sound (GoldenEar HTR 7000...another highly recommended product!). I re-purposed the old ones to my office and needed a sub. With the lack of space in my office, I bought a new CP8 to go behind the love seat, and it sounds wonderful, as I knew it would. It goes plenty deep, shakes the love seat nicely during explosions, and fills the room with bass. This won't replace my giant 15" sub and couch bass shakers in my primary home theater (how I was able to talk the S.O. into keeping those, I don't know!), it's a small 8" woofer after all. It's designed as an auxiliary sub to be placed right next to the listener in order to provide a similar tactile sensation as the bass shakers in bigger rooms and systems, but performs well enough that it can also be used in smaller situations like my office as the primary sub. Use it as designed immediately next to your listening position and it will perform excellently!
We purchased the Couch Potato subwoofer because of its highly unique form factor, combined with Earthquake Sound's reputation for excellent sound quality and high value, combined with its speaker-level input, a feature that's disappearing from subs. The subwoofer is being used in a distributed audio system in a master bedroom. We have a pair of Sonance 6.5" VP64R speakers installed into the ceiling. The subwoofer is placed under the bed, near the footboard. We ran the 16/4 speaker cable from the multi-room amplifier (a 12-channel 60w/channel AudioControl Architect) located in a storage room two floors below) to a terminal behind the bed, then up to the Sonance speakers. Because the Sonance speakers can run full-range, we chose to wire the sub in parallel with the speakers, rather that wiring the Sonance speakers into the sub's high-pass Speaker Level output. Words can't fully describe how beautifully the Couch Potato sub fills out the sound in the room. The tonality of the sub is exceptional. Musical textures come through aplomb, and after the crossover frequency and level were adjusted to match the ceiling speakers, the sub and those speakers blended together so well it's almost impossible to hear them as separate speakers. The room has punch, texture, and a fullness that has to be heard to believe. And, best of all, the Couch Potato's form factor, which allowed it to be hidden under the bed, is what allowed this system to come together so well. I looked everywhere and couldn't find another subwoofer with a built-in amplifier, speaker-level inputs, an 8" woofer, and a low-profile cabinet. The CP8 met all of my requirements, and the best part it it actually sounds good, too. Win-Win. Now, the only part of the project that wasn't turnkey was that in order to fit the sub under the bed, the box spring needed to be elevated 1.5" to fit the sub. I used 2"x4" boards cut into various lengths, screwed to the bed's support frame. This naturally elevated the bed 1.5", which was not entirely what I wanted. But, it was needed to use the sub under the bed. I wish Earthquake Sound would consider making a shorter enclosure with two 6.5" woofers. It seems to me that this "hidden" subwoofer market (especially for whole-home distributed-audio systems where room's typically have a single pair of ceiling speakers and lack truly full-range sound) is not well served by current products. Earthquake Sound, are you listening"?
This sub woofer kicks butt. I have it right against my wall and it is so slim you don't even know it's there and it adds so much to my book shelf speakers. Very well made, great driver and enclosure, highly recommend!
good bass behind the couch can feel the thumping in the cushions
Great customer service when I needed exact measurements to make sure this unit would fit in the designated space. Thanks for the help.
This is a great compact sub, far better than any smaller sub I've seen or heard. I bought it to go with my Outlaw LFM 1 Plus and am very happy so far. It gets 5 stars for its compact size and profomace as an 8" sub.
Too tall to fit under the couch. Had to stand on it's side behind the couch. Been using it for 4 days. Amazing product. Crossover, auto-power and hi-level inputs very useful. Very, very satisfied with this!
